Calgary Automation Pricing: What Competitors Charge (And Why We Do Not)

Mar 25, 20267 min readAhmed

If you have contacted any Calgary business automation company in the past year, you have experienced this:

  1. You visit their website
  2. You look for pricing
  3. There is no pricing
  4. You are asked to "book a consultation"
  5. You get on a call
  6. They quote you $5,000-$25,000+

This is not an accident. It is a strategy.

We analyzed 8 Calgary automation competitors. Here is what we found.

The Competitors

We looked at these Calgary-based automation companies:

CompanyStarting Price (Estimated)Model
Makflow.aiContact requiredProject-based
AKA Solutions$5,000-$25,000+Enterprise projects
Sunstone Software$3,000-$15,000Custom development
AutomateNexus$10,000-$50,000+Enterprise AI
ZTABS$5,000-$20,000+Energy tech focus
Calgary AI Automation$2,000-$10,000SMB focused
NuTab Digital$1,000-$8,000SMB focused
Disyn Insights$1,500-$7,500Small business

Key observation: None of them publish pricing on their website.

All of them require a consultation call before you get a number.

Why Competitors Hide Pricing

There are three reasons automation companies do not publish pricing.

1. Price Anchoring

If they publish "$5,000 starting" on their website, you know the price before they have a chance to sell you.

If they get you on a call first, they can:

  • Understand your pain points
  • Quantify the cost of your problem
  • Build value before revealing price
  • Anchor against your current costs (not their price)

By the time they say "$15,000", you have already mentally calculated that your problem costs $50,000/year. The price seems reasonable.

2. Scope Creep

"Automation" is vague. It could mean:

  • One workflow connecting two tools
  • A full CRM implementation
  • Enterprise AI agent deployment
  • Custom software development

Without a defined scope, they can quote based on what they think you need (or what you will pay for), not what you actually need.

3. Negotiation Room

If pricing is published, there is no room to negotiate.

If pricing is custom, they can:

  • Start high ($25,000)
  • Come down if you push back ($15,000)
  • Make you feel like you got a deal
  • Still charge 3x what a transparent company would

What They Actually Charge

Based on our research (website analysis, industry reports, and client conversations who have worked with these firms), here is the typical pricing:

Entry-Level Projects

  • Price: $1,000-$5,000
  • Scope: Single workflow, basic CRM setup
  • Timeline: 2-4 weeks
  • Ongoing: $500-$2,000/month support retainer

Mid-Market Projects

  • Price: $5,000-$15,000
  • Scope: Multi-workflow, dashboard, team training
  • Timeline: 4-8 weeks
  • Ongoing: $1,000-$3,000/month support retainer

Enterprise Projects

  • Price: $15,000-$50,000+
  • Scope: Full automation suite, custom integrations, AI agents
  • Timeline: 8-16 weeks
  • Ongoing: $3,000-$10,000/month support retainer

The Hidden Cost: Monthly Retainers

Most competitors charge ongoing monthly fees:

  • Support retainer: $500-$5,000/month
  • Hosting fees: $100-$500/month
  • Maintenance: $500-$2,000/month
  • "Account management": $500-$3,000/month

Over 5 years, a $15,000 project with $2,000/month retainer becomes:

  • Year 1: $15,000 + $24,000 = $39,000
  • Years 2-5: $24,000 × 4 = $96,000
  • 5-year total: $135,000

Why We Do Things Differently

We publish our pricing on our website. Here it is:

PackagePriceDeliveryWhat You Get
Starter$8005-7 days1 workflow, CRM/inbox connection, owner alerts
Core Systems$2,500-$5,0002-4 weeks3-5 workflows, dashboards, team training, 60-day support
InfrastructureCustom4-8 weeksPrivate hosting, client portals, security review

No consultation required to see the price. No hidden fees. No monthly retainers.

Why $800?

We chose $800 as our entry point for three reasons:

1. Below Competitor Minimum The cheapest competitor we found starts at $1,000. Most start at $3,000-$5,000. At $800, we are accessible to businesses that would never call a $10,000 automation company.

2. Low-Risk Trial $800 is low enough that a business owner can say yes without a board meeting. It is a credit card decision, not a budget committee decision.

3. Foot in the Door Once we deliver one workflow and show the ROI, most clients come back for the Core Systems package. The $800 project becomes a $5,000 relationship.

Why No Retainers?

We do not charge monthly retainers because:

1. You Own What We Build The workflows, automations, and systems we build are yours. No subscription to us. No vendor lock-in.

2. Hosting Is Your Choice You can host on your own VPS (~$10/month), on our infrastructure, or anywhere else. We do not profit from your hosting.

3. Support Is Optional We offer optional support at $200/month. Most clients do not need it after the first 60 days.

The Real Cost Comparison

Let us compare a typical project across 5 years.

Competitor (Typical)

ItemCost
Initial project$10,000
Monthly retainer (5 years)$120,000
Hosting fees (5 years)$6,000
5-year total$136,000

Owned Cloud

ItemCost
Starter package$800
Core Systems upgrade$5,000
VPS hosting (5 years)$600
Optional support (2 years)$4,800
5-year total$11,200

Savings: $124,800 over 5 years (92% less)

Why This Matters for Calgary Businesses

Calgary small businesses (3-50 employees) operate differently than enterprise companies.

Cash Flow Sensitivity

Most cannot afford $10,000-$50,000 upfront. They can afford $800.

No IT Staff

They do not have a CTO to evaluate enterprise solutions. They need something that works and that they own.

Skepticism of Consultants

Many have been burned by consultants who charge $20,000 and deliver nothing. Transparent pricing builds trust.

Value Every Dollar

Every dollar spent on automation is a dollar not spent on marketing, inventory, or payroll. The ROI needs to be clear and fast.

Objections We Hear

"If it is this cheap, what is the catch?"

No catch. We are efficient. We use open-source tools (n8n, self-hosted). We do not have a sales team. We do not have an office. We do not have overhead. Our margin is still healthy at $800.

"Can you actually deliver for $800?"

Yes. One workflow. One pain point. One automation. Most businesses start there and come back for more once they see the ROI.

"What if I need more than one workflow?"

Then you buy the Core Systems package ($2,500-$5,000). Or you buy additional workflows at $400-$800 each. You are not locked into a retainer.

"What if it does not work?"

We have a 60-day support window included. If the workflow breaks, we fix it. If it does not solve your problem, we work with you until it does.

The Bottom Line

Competitors hide pricing because it benefits them.

We publish pricing because it benefits you.

You can spend $136,000 over 5 years with a competitor. Or you can spend $11,200 with us. Same outcome. 92% savings.

The choice is yours.
